One of the best crab apple trees, Malus Evereste gives two long periods of interest, so is an ideal specimen tree for the smaller garden. It’s a small, slow-growing, deciduous tree with an upright, pyramidal habit. The leaves are deep green, turning yellow and bronze in autumn. The fragrant flowers, very large for a crab apple, emerge white from scarlet buds in May, beautiful against the deep green leaves; they are pollen-rich, very attractive to bees, and good pollinators for domestic apple trees. In early autumn, small crab apples in shades of yellow and orange cover the tree, and persist into winter; they are edible and make a gorgeous apple jelly.
