The big, slightly glossy, deep green leaves are pointed and oval with a serrated edge.  From July to late September, slender conical panicles of creamy-white flowers appear, with a particularly elegant mixture of sterile and starry fertile florets, very attractive to pollinators. Paniculate hydrangea Kyushu can be pruned back quite hard in early spring.
